Responsibilities

Helps to solve problems in the manufacturing process that arise with the use of different materials. Instrumental to the team effort for the use of laboratory equipment for root cause analysis, and validating new and existing products to industry standards. Tests and ensures products comply with national and international legal and quality standards. Advises most efficient materials to purchase and recommends on materials that use less energy.  Assists engineers and scientists as they create, modify, and test products and processes. Performs research and development during creation phase of product. Inspects products and processes for flaws and identifies areas of improvement. Conducts tests and collects data. Assesses current equipment and processes, and makes recommendations for changes. Helps to troubleshoot and repair equipment. Shows results in reports. May train personnel in equipment usage and processes. Creates and conducts experiments. Processes and analyzes results and data. Collaborates with industry specialists to apply the results of research and develop new techniques. Presents ongoing work and findings, and summarizes the nature and methodology of the research. 

 

The successful applicant will be able to support detailed analysis and design inputs for the overall solution components to ensure successful implementation from prototyping through high volume production of new credential features, materials and production equipment / processes.

 

Typical lab equipment used include Instron force gauge, microscopes, RFID analyzer, among others.  Common projects will consist of:

  • Perform laboratory tests to determine failure mode
  • Cross-section microscopy (CSM) a plus
  • Reproduce failures based on testing information
  • Recommend process improvements and corrective actions for improved field performance
  • Properly document and clearly communicate results verbally and in written reports.

Qualifications

Performs work under general supervision. Handles moderately complex issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. Possesses solid working knowledge of subject matter.  A successful candidate would be mechanically inclined with some college chemistry and a curiosity of processes & how things work. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic computer / networking ability (Excel, Word, Teams, etc.)
  • Ability to perform experiments and clearly communicate results
  • Ability to analyze test results using 6 sigma tools
  • Self-starter / limited supervision needed
  • Demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills
  • Able and willing to support both initial development and ongoing manufacturing as needed

 

Qualifications, Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 3-5 years relevant work experience, or laboratory technician with 10 years experience
  • Credit Card or ID card industry experience a plus
