Responsibilities

We are seeking an energetic Senior Tax Manager to join our finance team.  Reporting to the VP of Tax, the Senior Tax Manager will impact the organization by being responsible for tax planning and compliance activities for the Company’s US operations including tax planning, tax compliance, timely tax filing and reporting, management of external tax professionals, and internal expert and liaison on all tax related matters. The Senior Tax Manager will also prepare the Company’s income tax provision and ensure that the Company’s income tax accounting and tax positions are contemporaneously documented and in accordance with the applicable accounting principles and tax law. The Senior Tax Manager is also responsible for managing the Tax Accountant who handles the sales and use tax compliance, property taxes and business licenses.   An ideal candidate must be ambitious, driven and have perseverance while maintaining a positive attitude. 

 

Essential Job Functions (includes but is not limited to):

 

  • Provide proactive and pragmatic tax advice to any department confronted with tax matters (finance team, contract lawyers, bid teams, customer service, manufacturing, trade compliance, …). This could include training sessions on dedicated topics to concerned staff. When required, liaise with external tax advisor to solve any question.
  • Facilitate and manage the preparation and review company federal tax returns and the accurate, timely filing of all tax forms.
  • Ensure accurate, timely filing of consolidated federal, state and local income tax returns and other business related filings.
  • Develop and implement strategic tax planning for all necessary federal and state taxes.
  • Manage stakeholders as they prepare components of the company's US federal income tax return and other tax documents.
  • Plan for and develop overall return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs with tax team.
  • Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.
  • Participate in any corporate restructuring projects, for instance sale of shares or assets, mergers, integration of acquisitions, or simplification of legal structure.
  • Participate in or lead external tax audits to ensure appropriate documentation and replies are delivered timely to inspectors.
  • Own the development, implementation, and management of tax strategy and structure to minimize taxes.
  • Responsible for staying current with legislative tax changes that may have an effect on the global tax exposure and modifying strategies and plans accordingly.
  • Oversee the Tax Accountant with sales and use tax, property tax, and business licenses.
  • Manage all tax related audits.
  • Develop and implement tax strategies and structuring for mergers and acquisitions including managing the due diligence process.
  • Preparation of the company’s income tax provision in compliance with US GAAP/IFRS applying Sarbanes-Oxley compliant processes and controls.  Responsible for quarterly and annual tax accounting calculations, including ASC740-10 analysis and documentation, tax impact of equity instruments, and required footnotes and disclosures for financial statements.
  • Oversee the US sales tax reporting, including sales tax compliance, taxability research and exemptions, audits, and reporting systems.
  • Prepare information for and coordinate preparation of US federal and state income tax returns, and estimated payments.
  • Perform research on various tax issues including US federal, state and international tax.
  • Act as a liaison between business, legal, finance and other departments to assist with identifying and resolving issues associated with transactions and projects.
  • Provide assistance to legal department in reviewing tax specific language in contracts.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional tax technical, accounting, analytical, and research skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues clearly in non-technical terms to management.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively present information to executive management and board of directors.
  • Strong project and people management skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting for income taxes (US GAAP/IFRS) and related controls (Sarbanes-Oxley compliance).
  • Highly organized and structured in approach.
  • Team oriented, highly motivated and self-sufficient individual.
  • Detailed working knowledge of all material taxes a global entity will be exposed to including corporate tax, sales tax, withholding tax, and R&D tax credits.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other members of the finance team and to partner with key business stakeholders
  • MS Office including Excel (highly proficient to expert.)
  • Knowledge of systems associated with tax compliance (ex. OneSource)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or Business Administration
  • 10 years of corporate tax experience, including 5+ year supervisory experience
  • Public accounting experience a plus
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Master’s Degree in Accounting or Taxation preferred
  • Prior experience managing team members and processes preferred
  • Canadian Tax knowledge a plus
